THE DECISIONS TAKEN IN MARMARA UNIVERSITY SENATE MEETING DATED OCTOBER 07, 2020 REGARDING THE STUDENTS TRANSFERRED TO MARMARA UNIVERSITY FROM İSTANBUL ŞEHİR UNIVERSITY

THE DECISIONS TAKEN IN MARMARA UNIVERSITY SENATE MEETING DATED OCTOBER 07, 2020  REGARDING THE STUDENTS TRANSFERRED TO MARMARA UNIVERSITY FROM İSTANBUL ŞEHİR UNIVERSITY

 

1-      The following principles will be applied regarding the tuition fees of the associate degree and undergraduate students who were registered before the date of 2019 at İstanbul Şehir University whose official authorization has been annulled.

 

a)      Students will be allowed to drop one or more courses they have registered for under the approval of their supervisors within the add/drop period indicated on the academic calendar. No refund of tuition fee will be made under such circumstances.

 

b)      Students who are eligible to sit at a limitless number of exams will be required to pay the tuition fee on the basis of the credits of the courses they take. They will, however, not be allowed to benefit from the other rights granted to students.

 

c)      Students whose request to suspend their studies have been accepted pursuant to the board decision of the related department will be required to pay 25% of the tuition fee pertaining to the term of the suspension of their studies. In the case of applications made after the last weekday of the fourth week following the beginning of classes, students will be required to pay the total amount of the tuition fee pertaining to that semester.

 

ç)      Students will not be allowed to benefit from the scholarship opportunities granted by the University during the term for which they have suspended their studies.

 

d)      In case the suspension of studies is realized before the last weekday of the fourth week following the beginning of classes, the part of the tuition fee exceeding 25% of the amount the student is supposed to pay for that semester will be refunded.

 

e)      The refund of the tuition fee will be made only on condition that the student does not owe any amount of fees to the University and has returned the equipment which might have been provided to him/her by the University.

 

f)       In case the suspension of studies is realized after the last weekday of the fourth week following the beginning of classes, the student will be required to pay the total amount of the tuition fee for the semester he/she is registered.

 

g)      Academic achievement scholarship will be granted on condition that the student has obtained a total credit of at least 30 at the end of the first two semesters of his/her associate degree/ undergraduate studies (excluding the summer school courses) and 75 % of the total credit for the courses in the relevant academic year in the consecutive years. The discounts in the tuition fees will be applied at the rates listed in the following table on the basis of the student’s GPA and the scholarship he/she has been granted as a result of his/her performance in the University Entrance Exam.

ğ)      Students will not be granted discounts on the bases of MU being the first choice, being the sibling or child of a MU student /graduate or a MU employee; nor will they be granted IB, ABITUR and MATURA scholarship during the term they benefit from academic achievement scholarships.

 

h)      The discount deserved on the basis of the academic achievement scholarship will be applied in the following academic year (excluding summer school).

 

ı)       The assessment regarding the grant of academic achievement scholarships will be made at the end of the spring semester for students who have started their associate degree / undergraduate studies in the fall semester, and at the end of the fall semester for those who have started in the spring semester.

 

i)       In case the student has been granted more than one discount or scholarship (excluding those granted on the bases of MU being the first choice, being the sibling or child of a MU student /graduate or a MU employee), he/she will be allowed to benefit from only one or the higher one in addition to the scholarship granted as a result of the performance in the University Entrance Exam.

 

 

j)       The scholarships and discounts will be applied on the basis of the tuition fee the student is required to pay.

 

k)      Students who are unable to graduate during the normal period of education, those who are unable to graduate from undergraduate programs in eight semesters (excluding the summer school) or from associate degree programs in four semesters (excluding the summer school) obtaining less than twelve credits in the following semester are required to pay the tuition fees on the basis of the credits they obtain for that semester until the end of the scholarship term indicated in the OSYM guide of the year in which they took the University Entrance Exam. On the other hand, those who obtain a total of twelve or more credits in the related semester are required to pay the total amount of the tuition fee they are supposed to pay. The non-credit courses will be treated as one-credit courses.

 

l)       Students who graduate before the normal period of education, undergraduate students who are able to graduate in a period shorter than eight semesters, are required to pay 50% of the tuition fee they are supposed to pay in case they have three or fewer courses to be completed (including non-credit courses). Those who have more than three courses to be completed are required to pay the total amount of the tuition fee.

 

2-      The following principles will be applied regarding the tuition fees of the associate degree and undergraduate students who started their studies in the academic year 2019-2020 at İstanbul Şehir University whose official authorization has been annulled.

 

a)      Students who are unable to graduate during the normal period of education, those who are unable to graduate from undergraduate programs in eight semesters (excluding the summer school) or from associate degree programs in four semesters (excluding the summer school) receiving less than twelve credits in the following semester are required to pay the tuition fees on the basis of the credits they obtain for that semester over the rates of the discounts and scholarships they have been granted. On the other hand, those who obtain a total of twelve or more credits in the related semester are required to pay the total amount of the tuition fee they are supposed to pay for that semester. Courses taken during internship will not be charged.

 

b)      Students who graduate before the normal period of education, undergraduate students who are able to graduate in a period shorter than eight semesters are required to pay 50% of the tuition fee they are supposed to pay in case they have three or fewer courses to be completed (including non-credit courses). Those who have more than three courses (including non-credit courses) to be completed are required to pay the total amount of the tuition fee. Courses taken during internship will not be charged.

 

c)      Internal transfer students will be required to pay the updated amount of the tuition fee for the program to which they have been transferred in the academic year in which the transfer takes place.

 

 

 

3-      The following principles will be applied regarding the tuition fees of the post-graduate students transferred from İstanbul Şehir University whose official authorization has been annulled:

 

a)      Students who request to suspend their studies during the add/drop period will be required to pay 25% of the tuition fee for the related semester.

 

b)      Students who request to suspend their studies after the add/drop period will be required to pay the total amount of the tuition fee for the related semester.

 

c)      Students who are unable to complete the requirements of their studies within the normal period of their education will be required to pay 5% of the tuition fee for the related academic year at the beginning of each term in order to be able to re-register.

 

d) Students who have failed to pay the tuition fees accumulated in the semesters they have not registered or re-registered for will not be allowed to register for the new semester.

 

e) Students who started their studies in 2019 will be required to pay the tuition fees for their programs. Those who were registered in previous years will be required to pay their accumulated debts, if any, together with the fees for the courses and the thesis.

 

4-      The tuition fees, course fees, fees per course credit and thesis fees of the associate degree, undergraduate and post-graduate students transferred from İstanbul Şehir University whose official authorization has been annulled will be determined by the Senate at the beginning of each and every academic year.

 

5-      For the academic year 2020-2021, the fees per course credit of the associate degree and undergraduate students transferred from İstanbul Şehir University whose official authorization has been annulled will be the same as those for the last academic year as indicated in the table below:

The fee per course in the Postgraduate Programs of Business Administration Institute: 2806 TL

 

The fee per course in the PhD programs in History- Private Law- Public Law- Sociology: 3741 TL

6-      It has been decided that of the students of İstanbul Şehir University whose official authorization has been annulled, those who have received scores equal to or higher than those required by Marmara University in the University Entrance Exam of the year in which they registered at İstanbul Şehir University will not be required to pay any tuition fees.

 

7-      It has been decided that the invitation and acceptance documents granted by İstanbul Şehir University to international students before the annulment of its official authorization will be evaluated by Marmara University Rectorate.

 

8-      It has been decided that the course programs of the Double Major or Minor programs included in the semi-passive programs that the students transferred from İstanbul Şehir University whose official authorization has been annulled started to take before the transfer will be accepted as indicated in the attached lists.
